Week of April 21st-25th -Happenings

 This week we will be viewing the movie Of Mice and Men to go along with the novel we read in class.  A test was given in class over the book as well. 

Unit Essential Question: How does each character deal with his or her loneliness in Of Mice and Men?

Research Report / Project

Students are researching a topic of their choice that has something to do with a social issue and how it affects our society either in a positive or negative way.  Students had a total of 5 days of researching in class (2 days in the computer lab, and 3 days in the media center).  

Students need a minimum of 4 sources (one database article, one book, and two other their choice).  The paper must be in 12 pt font, 5-6 page typed, and in MLA style. 

By now, students have turned in their note cards and we will be working on rough drafts a few days in class.  Rough drafts may be hand written, or typed.  Either way, correct MLA format should be followed.  Grading will concentrate on if students are including ample details to support their main points and if they are citing their sources correctly within the paper.  Students have been given a packet in class that explains the expectations, which was to be signed by a parent, and may also use the links below for help.

Nightly Homework:


Homework consists of working on the rough draft for the research paper.  Some students may still need to be taking additional notes or gathering more sources.

SSR (Silent Sustained Reading) Wednesdays

Time is given in class each Wednesday for silent reading to give students time to read their required books for class, or stories they may have missed.  Students are given a reading log to record a response to their reading every Wednesday.  DON'T FORGET to have a BOOK EACH WEDNESDAY!
